The SREC Education

Our website has a plethora of information on SRECs, whether it is geared towards programs that exist in your state or in other states in which you may be eligible.  We provide this information free to our community in order to improve the understanding of this market and ensure that it succeeds in promoting the growth of solar. SREC Program - Describing SRECs, why they exist, how they are created and how to get started.  This page also includes links to every state in which we currently operate.
State Pages - These landing pages describe the parameters of each state's SREC program.  Every state's program is unique and these pages are key to understanding what influences each state's SREC market.
SREC Blog - News and other helpful information that we publish as we continue to learn more about these markets.  The blog is organized by categories, which can be found on the right side of the page.  You can also use the icons in the upper right to subscribe to the blog in various ways.

The SREC Auction

SRECTrade hosts a public, transparent auction every month for existing SRECs. The auctions have been a cornerstone of spot pricing trends in the states in which they have been held.  They are the best way to sell the SRECs as you generate them.  As a customer, you have two options when considering our auction:

Self-Serve - Once you have been certified by your state(s), setup your SREC tracking registry account and generated your first SRECs, you are ready to participate in the auction using our Self-Serve platform. Simply create an account on SRECTrade.com and place your SRECs for sale in the auction.  Upon a successful sale, we'll send you instructions to transfer the SRECs, collect payments from buyers and send you a payment via check or direct deposit.

EasyREC - A less arduous solution would be to enroll in our EasyREC service, an innovative and different approach to aggregating SRECs.  We provide a straightforward, hands-free solution for anyone who would prefer not to hassle with the process of registering and managing SRECs. We will submit your facility for state certification in all states in which you are eligible, we will register you with the SREC tracking registry and we will automatically manage the creation, sale and transfer of your SRECs in the monthly auctions.

Long-Term SREC Contracts

SRECTrade is a one-stop destination for any solar owner. You have all the tools to decide how to best manange your SRECs -- whether you want to sell them for an upfront payment today, lock in at a fixed-price for the future, or sell at current market prices in our monthly auctions. Here is a brief description of our long-term SREC options with links to more details on each.

Fixed-Price SREC Payments - Some solar owners may prefer the stability of long-term SREC contracts that guarantee a fixed-price for the SRECs produced by the facility. Fixed-price SREC contracts are scarce in the SREC markets, particularly for smaller generators. Electricity Suppliers prefer not to enter into long-term contracts for SRECs because their electricity contracts tend to be less than three years long. In addition, when they do enter into long-term contracts, they prefer to do so with larger facilities. SRECTrade is addressing this need by aggregating facilities and delivering long-term contracts to buyers in bulk. SRECTrade uses a standard contract and offers 1, 3 or 5 year contracts to sellers. Upfront SREC Payments - Solar owners may prefer to use the future cash from SREC payments to finance their investment today. In this case, they can sell their SRECs for a lump sum payment upfront. Upfront payments are even more scarce in the SREC markets because the buyers take on considerable risk when paying cash for SRECs that have yet to be generated. SRECTrade provides this option to sellers by working with buyers that are interested in making upfront investments in SRECs. Contracts available are for upfront payments for 5 or 10 years of SRECs.
